Students from our ICT courses recently came together to showcase their talents at this year’s ICT Expo, giving visitors the chance to see the exciting projects and skills they have developed throughout the academic year.

The Expo gave students the opportunity to present their work to teachers, employers, guests and fellow students, demonstrating not only their technical knowledge but also their confidence, communication skills and professionalism.

Valuable experience

The event featured a wide range of activities and project displays, including:

  • Website design and development projects
  • Cybersecurity awareness activities
  • Database management showcases
  • Excel and data management workshops
  • Digital transformation research projects
  • Interactive demonstrations.

Students also presented their work to employers and guests, giving them valuable experience of explaining their ideas and answering questions about their projects.

Gaining insight into the ICT industry

One of the highlights of the day was the involvement of local employers and industry professionals. They spent time speaking with students, reviewing projects and offering feedback on their work. This gave learners a great opportunity to gain insight into the ICT industry, learn about potential career pathways and understand the skills employers are looking for.

The Expo concluded with an awards ceremony recognising some of the outstanding work and achievements from across the department.

Reflecting real-world challenges

Students spoke positively about their experience, with many saying they enjoyed the chance to showcase their work and receive feedback from industry professionals. They particularly valued working on projects that reflected real-world challenges and appreciated the opportunity to share their ideas with a wider audience.

A visiting employer praised the ICT Expo for being well organised and enjoyable, highlighting the confidence, professionalism and enthusiasm shown by students across all levels.

Students were well prepared to present their projects, clearly explained their work, and demonstrated strong technical skills, particularly in areas such as spreadsheets and coursework projects.

The visitor was impressed by the behaviour and courtesy of learners and noted that many Level 3 students had clear progression plans, including progressing onto HNC and HND programmes as a cost-effective alternative to university.
