Young people and their parents have a right to expect the college to provide a safe and secure environment and a right to be protected from harm.
This means everyone who comes into contact with children, young people and their families, including those who do not have a specific role in relation to safeguarding children, have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
Our recent Ofsted inspection (November 2024) highlighted 'outstanding student behaviour and attitudes' - consistent with our commitment to ensuring all our students feel safe, as noted in the report.

Operation Encompass
Harrow College is now part of Operation Encompass.
Operation Encompass is a national police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children who experience domestic abuse. It is the notification to schools that a child (under 18) has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident. This includes incidents where the child/young person was not present but is part of the household. This will ordinarily be done by the start of the next school day.
Operation Encompass is in place in every police force in England and Wales, the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Gibraltar.
Operation Encompass will ensure that a specially trained member of the school staff, known as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), is informed. The DSL can then use the information that has been shared, in confidence, to ensure the wellbeing of the child. The College may be able to make provisions or adjustments to assist the child and their family.
If you would like more information, please visit Operation Encompass website or contact one of our Safeguarding Support Officers.
Prevent
Harrow College meets the requirements of the Prevent Duty and therefore seeks to safeguard students and staff from becoming radicalised or attracted to extreme or terrorist causes, and to keep them both safe and within the law.

Support for Parents
#AskTheAwkward aims to help parents and carers have regular conversations with their children about online relationships and more. The resource includes three short films created in a social experiment style, with real parents and their children to capture their reactions to a range of questions.
