The incredible talent of our Harrow ICT students was again showcased at this year's ICT Expo in June.

The ICT Expo is an event that continues to build on a strong foundation of innovation, creativity, and student excellence. Once again, our students made us incredibly proud - demonstrating dedication, resilience, and a passion for technology as they completed their coursework and actively contributed to the Expo.

Over 310 students from Level 1 to Level 4 courses, including HNC and HND programmes, took part in this exciting event.

Following last year’s impactful theme on mental health and racism, which sparked meaningful conversations, this year’s focus shifted to a timely and relevant topic: “The Digital World and Its Impact on High Street Shops.” This theme resonated deeply with current economic and social trends, offering a platform for students to explore how this digital transformation is reshaping local economies and consumer behaviour.

The day featured interactive project displays, an awards ceremony, and meaningful conversations with guests including Harriet Smith and Patrycja Brzyska from AtkinsRéalis and Gopal Gobiratnam from My ClinicOS. We also had former Harrow staff members Cecilia Jones and Hemuna Pather-Carr in attendance as well as successful ICT alumnus Ahmed Affash, who now has his own business!

Highlights from the Expo

  • Dreamweaver Website Creation Workshops:
Students showcased their entrepreneurial spirit by designing their own websites using Adobe Dreamweaver. Each student developed a unique project, complete with a business name, logo, and product offerings. One example is OWN3D – a business focused on reconditioned mobile phones
  • Excel Interface Design:
Practical workshops on Excel taught students how to design user-friendly interface menus to improve efficiency and streamline data management.
  • Cybersecurity Awareness:
In-depth discussions on cybersecurity threats equipped attendees with the knowledge to navigate digital risks confidently, emphasising the importance of online safety in today’s interconnected world.
  • Digital Transformation and the High Street:
Strategic insights were shared on how digital technologies are influencing traditional retail spaces. Students explored the challenges and opportunities facing high street shops in the digital age, offering thoughtful perspectives on the potential impacts these changes may have to the economy.
  • Database Design and Management:
Students demonstrated their technical skills by planning, creating, and modifying relational databases to meet specific requirements - an essential skill in today’s data-driven landscape.

A Celebration of Student Success

Nisha Raithatha, Lecturer in Computing and IT, said "All students made a great effort to showcase their work and confidently answered questions posed by the employers. The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive. Employers noted that the students were well-behaved, professional, and presented impressive coursework - including websites, Excel interfaces, and software programs of a high standard.

We’re excited to announce that AtkinsRéalis and My ClinicOS will be supporting us in future events. We look forward to closely liaising and working with them to further develop and endorse our BTEC assignments. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event a success!”

As with every year, the ICT Expo is not just a showcase of technical skills, it’s a celebration of student growth, creativity, and achievement. We are proud to share their success stories and look forward to seeing how these young innovators will shape the future of technology and business.
