On Wednesday 8 July, Harrow College showcased the achievements of its extraordinary students, celebrating and acknowledging their successes at the annual Student Awards ceremony, at Harrow Arts Centre.
Over 100 guests attended the event hosted by Jo Swindells, Principal of Harrow College, including The Worshipful Mayor of the London Borough of Hillingdon, Councillor Yogesh Teli, our guest speaker Action Jackson, as well as students, parents, staff and other members of the local community.
Our inspirational guest speaker: Action Jackson
We were delighted to welcome Action Jackson to the College, who shared his remarkable journey with us. He is described as an ‘unstoppable force of happiness’.
Known for his dynamic energy, humour, and ability to leave a lasting impact, and has worked with some of the world’s leading organisations, including Google, Amazon, McDonalds. We were delighted to have him talk to and inspire our students.
Action Jackson commented; “Being part of the Students Awards here at Harrow College, it's all about celebrating what they've achieved. I think there's one thing to inspire a student, there's another thing to see them win. And so tonight for me, it's like a cherry on the cake”.
He added: "My advice to every student here at Harrow College is dream big, act now on your dream and never give up - do you know why?......because you are amazing. Just continue with that momentum and don't stop."
Celebrating our students’ achievements
We celebrated the amazing achievements of 28 outstanding students, who between them received two types of awards; curriculum area awards and cross-college awards, as well as a Principals Award. Our winners were recognised for a range of reasons including academic achievement, overcoming personal challenges and embracing student life and all it can bring.
Greatest Contribution to College Life Award winners
As well as curriculum awards the Greatest Contribution to College Life award went to two students - Sidrah Esaf and Leo Gilby – who were recognised for their outstanding and consistent achievements throughout their time at the College.
Sidrah has achieved excellent grades while making a lasting impact as Harrow College Student President. Known for her collaborative and approachable nature, she has represented students at the Student Shadow Board, Governors' Meetings and interview panels, as well as supporting events including International Women's Day and the Fusion Fiesta Cultural Celebration.
When asked about her proudest moment since starting her studies at Harrow College, she commented; “I have had a lot of achievements, but one of my proudest was being the College President because I never expected to be chosen. I knew I had the team leader and leadership skills in me and being the President helped me showcased it”.
Joint winner Leo has made a positive impact throughout the year and is a true role model for his peers. As a Tutor Representative, he has confidently represented the student voice and contributed valuable insights on student panels. Despite facing personal challenges, he continues to support others and play an active role in college life.
When asked about how he felt receiving this award he commented: "It made me feel really happy that all my hard work has finally payed off”.
Final remarks from the Principal
Jo commented on the evening saying: “One of the best things about working at Harrow College is finding out even more about our amazing students and listening to just some of the brilliant things they are doing to prepare for their next steps - setting themselves up for a fantastic future.”
