MP Stephen Timms, Minister of State for the Department of Work and Pensions, has visited Northwick Park Hospital to witness the outstanding work of Project Search, Harrow College, Kaleidoscope and The NHS Trust - an initiative that supports young people with special educational needs, learning disabilities, and autism in gaining valuable workplace experience within the NHS and externally.

During his visit, the Minister had the opportunity to speak directly with our interns on rotation in departments such as Outpatients, Pharmacy and the Medical Equipment Library.

A Q&A session was held in the boardroom, where interns and graduates shared powerful reflections on their learning journeys and the impact the programme has had on their personal and professional growth.

The Minister expressed his admiration for the programme’s remarkable success. His visit underscored the importance of Supported Internship initiatives in promoting equity of opportunity and empowering young people with SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) to thrive in meaningful careers.

A key part of Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge’s (HRUC) 2030 Strategy is to create opportunities for SEND learners through initiatives, internships and work experience.

Detta Moran-Howe, Manager - SEND: Curriculum Quality & Employability, HRUC, said: “It was a particularly proud moment for Harrow College as two of our graduates were recognised for their nominations in the NHS Worker of the Year National Awards.

“All interns and graduates represented themselves with confidence and professionalism, serving as excellent ambassadors for Harrow College, Project SEARCH, Kaleidoscope and the NHS Trust. They truly flew the Harrow College flag high. Congratulations to all our interns and graduates for showcasing their talents with such pride and excellence.”
