Computing & Information Technology

This qualification covers content such as creating and installing computer hardware, website development, spreadsheet modelling and animation techniques. It provides a foundation for core technical knowledge that will be useful for studying a Digital T-Level and also provides a work experience placement within industry.

  • Entry requirements

    4 x GCSEs grade 3 (grade D) or above including both English & maths. We would also accept a Level 1 in Functional Skills maths or English.
    Learners must be aged 16-17 or if you have an EHCP from 16-21.

  • Who is the course for?

    This qualification is ideal for learners who are interested in improving their employability skills while learning about working within the field of IT. This qualification can further develop your skills and knowledge of IT and boost your career prospects.

  • How is the course assessed?

    To gain this qualification, learners must complete 7 units, including Communicating in the IT industry, Working in the IT industry, Installing computer hardware, Website development,
    Computer systems, Spreadsheet modelling and Animation techniques.
    You must also complete your work placement where you will be working in IT, and show progression in your study skills and English and maths.
    Units are internally assessed through coursework. There will be a short synoptic exam at the end of the course which will test knowledge acquired throughout the year.

  • More information

    Learners will need to be volunteering or on a short practical placement to show competence in both knowledge and skills. This will be arranged by the College and does not need to be arranged prior to application.

    You can gain employment in administration, as a trainee web designer, database designer or IT support.

  • Where Next – Further Studies

    This qualification allows progression on to the T-Level in Digital sector: NCFE T-Level 3 Digital Business Services or Pearson Digital production, design and development. Otherwise, a Pass at the Level 2 Diploma and E3 Functional Skills English and Maths can lead to the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in IT. A Merit at the Level 2 Diploma and L1 Functional Skills English and Maths can lead to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate. A Merit at the Level 2 Diploma and L2 English and Maths can lead to the BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in IT.
