The technical qualification is split into 2 component parts:

  • Year 1 (Core Component): Learning about the healthcare sector, health and safety, person-centred care, and infection control. Students will also cover topics like human anatomy and physiology, mental health awareness, and principles of person-centred care.

  • Year 2 (Occupational Specialism Component): Focus on supporting therapy teams, focuses on the specific skills and knowledge required to support therapy teams, such as understanding different therapy approaches and assisting therapists in their work.
  • Entry requirements

    You must have 5 x GCSEs grade 9-4 (grade C or above), including English, Maths and Science, or a relevant Level 2 qualification at a Distinction.

    Candidates require a DBS check.

  • Who is the course for?

    This qualification is suitable for students aged 16+ looking to develop both knowledge and practical skills in the health sector, specifically those interested in supporting therapy teams.

    It supports progression into employment, higher education, or higher apprenticeships.

  • Study methods

    Study methods include a mixture of lectures, discussions, group and pair work, and practical demonstrations using our state-of-the-art hospital wards and immersive rooms.

    Work experience through industry placements is a key component.

    Students are also expected to undertake significant independent study outside of timetabled classes. Specific details for this course may vary, so confirmation with Uxbridge College is recommended.

  • How is the course assessed?

    This course has two main parts over two years, and each part has different ways to test what you have learned.
    Year 1 - Core Knowledge (Learning About Health Basics):

    • Exams: Two written tests to check what you know about health topics like safety and patient care.
    • Employer Set Project (ESP): A practical task set by employers to see how you solve real-world health problems.

      Year 2 - Supporting the Therapy Teams Occupational Specialism: synoptic assignments.
