This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0–5 years.
You will study topics including:
- Professional Practice
- Health and Safety
- Safeguarding
- Supporting Care Routines
- Promoting Positive Behaviour.
The delivery model includes theory lessons covered in college and a mandatory work placement.

Entry requirements
3 x GCSEs grade 3 or above preferably including both English and Maths or a relevant Level 1 qualification. Candidates require an enhanced DBS check.

This qualification is designed for adults (19+).

Class based discussions, presentations, group work, online resources, and independent study.

How is the course assessed?
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. Knowledge based outcomes can be assessed using non–mandatory assessment tasks provided for tutors’ convenience in this specification. Skills based outcomes must be achieved with reference to a real work environments and must include direct observation within the workplace.

This qualification requires learners to complete 250 hours mandatory work/industry placement experience throughout the duration of the qualification before certification.
Links with employers include: links with local nurseries, including Bright Horizons, who run workshops and offer industry placements. Trips include museums and local early years settings, including Forest Schools. -
Where Next – Job Opportunities
This counts towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner within the early years workforce. You can work under supervision in a range of roles including Nursery Practitioner, Classroom Assistant and Pre-School Practitioner.

Where Next – Further Studies
You can progress to a Level 3 early years qualification or teaching assistant course or employment at Level 2.
