Mia started her journey at Harrow College 3 years ago after successfully completing a transition course at the college whilst studying at high school and has never looked back.
Currently Mia is studying an Entry 3 Certificate in Employability at Harrow Weald campus. As part of her studies, she attends a Foundation Learning and Skills pathway four days a week, where she has developed practical skills such as gardening, art, and cooking, alongside work experience opportunities.
Mia describes Harrow College as place where she feels comfortable, valued, and part of a strong community.
Hard work and dedication
Mia faced significant health challenges but has always remained determined to attend regularly and continue her education. One of her proudest moments was winning a Harrow College award for Foundation Learning and ALS (Additional Learning Support) in her first year, calling it a highlight of her life.
Her time at Harrow College has helped her grow in confidence and independence, supporting her goal of becoming an independent adult and gaining meaningful employment.
Reflecting a creative passion
Outside of the classroom, she is highly active in swimming, performing arts, volunteering, and community groups for individuals with disabilities, reflecting her passion for creativity and inclusion.
The support Mia received from her tutors was invaluable as they consistently encourage her and boost her confidence through positive feedback.
She thoroughly enjoys the social environment, where she feels understood and included among peers with similar experiences.
Overall, Mia describes her Harrow College experience as friendly, safe, inclusive, encouraging, and positive. She strongly recommends the college to other young people with disabilities, due to its accessible courses, supportive environment, and career progression support.
