Our courses are suitable for students who have few or no formal qualifications and would like to progress onto a vocational course in the future.  They are suitable for people with special educational needs.

Our Foundation Learning provision

At the heart of HRUC’s Foundation Learning provision is a clear and ambitious vision.

  • Vision

To empower every learner, particularly those with high needs, and to support them to:

    • develop the confidence, skills, and independence required to progress into mainstream education and employment
    • or a rewarding and purposeful adult life.

We are proud to support a diverse cohort of learners, including those with complex needs and those who may have previously faced barriers to education.

Through a carefully structured and highly supportive environment, our students are not only engaging in learning; they are thriving.

  • Inclusive excellence

Our provision is delivered to the highest standards of dignity, care, and specialist expertise, particularly for learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and complex needs.

Our highly trained, dedicated, specialist staff work closely with each learner’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), delivering personalised programmes that are carefully mapped to individual outcomes ensuring progress, independence, and meaningful achievement at every stage.

Friendly staff provide a supportive and caring environment to help students reach their potential and progress to further study or employment.

  • Exceptional learning experiences

We offer a rich and engaging curriculum that goes far beyond the classroom:

    • Masterclasses delivered by industry professionals and specialist staff equipping learners with key skills that are required for next steps and world of work
    • Competitions that build confidence, teamwork, and pride in achievement
    • Work Experience and real-world learning opportunities
    • Employer engagement to strengthen employability pathways.

These experiences ensure that learning is relevant, inspiring, and directly linked to future goals.

  • Developing the whole learner

Our provision is designed to nurture every aspect of a learner’s development:

    • Employability skills: preparing learners for the workplace
    • Academic development: building literacy, numeracy, and subject knowledge
    • Independent living skills: fostering autonomy and life readiness.

Alongside this, our enrichment programme offers a wide range of activities that support wellbeing, social development, and personal interests, ensuring every learner feels included, motivated, and valued.
