The course is a 2 year programme:
- In year 1 you will study the core component which gives you a detailed understanding of the building services industry, whilst developing practical skills in your chosen specialism.
- In year 2 you will focus on your specialism which may include electrotechnical engineering or plumbing and heating engineering.
Our fully equipped workshops will enable you to become competent in your practice.
You will complete compulsory work experience and have a number of enrichment opportunities including site visits, guest speakers from industry and support to develop your employability skills.
Full uniform is compulsory and will be discussed at enrolment.

Entry requirements
Learners will have achieved GCSE 4 or above in English and Maths prior to enrolling on this course.

16-18 year-olds who are looking to a future in the building services industry.

Study methods
There is a mix of theory and practical lessons across the week and to achieve the highest grades and additional study at home is essential.
Classes will be made up of a range of teaching methods including lecture style delivery, group work, independent study and presentations. -
How is the course assessed?
Year 1 grades are made up of an employer set project and 2 core paper exams.
In year 2 there is a considerable practical element which is composed of a series of holistic practical tasks. -
Where Next – Job Opportunities
A number of our students have applied for university for courses including civil engineering and construction management.

Where Next – Further Studies
Students could progress to apprenticeships to develop and gain certification of full occupational competence, or they could progress to higher-level apprenticeships such as the Level 4.
As learners will have a significant period involved in an industry placement, there is a possibility of an offer of employment where a learner shows potential. There is also the opportunity to progress to higher education. -
