Students should be computer literate though no experience of using Photoshop Elements is required. It would be an advantage to have access to the software at home.
Who is the course for
Anyone interested in computer generated imagery who wishes to learn to manipulate digital images such as photos by using Photoshop Elements software. This course will not teach photographic skills or the use of digital cameras.
PLEASE NOTE: The software used in this course is PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS Topics will include: colours settings, managements, canvas, loading images, introduction to layers, adding text, selection tools, painting tools, burn, dodge, sponge tools, image formats, changing image and canvas size, tools for changing images - rotating, colour enhancement, cropping, cloning, enhancement menu, image orientation, filter, save, resize, save as, special effects, adding/removing people from a group, correct colour casts, portraits. As part of your course and where the opportunity occurs literacy/numeracy together with speaking and listening skills will be developed.
Theoretical topics covered each week, demonstrations, Q & A, exercises, group discussions.
How is the course assessed
There is no formal assessment but guidance and feedback will be given throughout the course.
Where next - Further Studies
The skills learned can be applied to designing posters,diagrames, leaflets, advertisements etc.
Students will be asked to bring in their own images to practice on but the tutor will also provide pictures if preferred. Students are able to save their work on the college student drive but anyone wishing to take their work away to practice should consider purchasing a USB memory stick. Notebook and pen
