Entry Requirements

5 x GCSEs grade 9-4 (grade A- C) including English and maths or a relevant Level 2 qualification at merit or above. Students who have 4 x GCSEs grade 9-4 (grade A- C) including English and maths should apply and will be interviewed.

Who is the course for

If you like working with computers, enjoy solving problems using logical, analytical thinking and enjoy hands on practical work then this course is for you.

Course Content

You will learn how to create websites, animations, games, spreadsheets and databases. You will also develop practical skills in computer hardware and networking. There are 9 units to study. Compulsory Units are: U1: Communication and Employability skills for IT U2: Computer Systems Specialist Units: U3: Information Systems U8: E- Commerce U10: Communication Technologies U28: Website Production and Management U30: Digital Graphics U31: Computer Animation U42: Spreadsheet Modelling Specialist units are subject to change.

Study Methods

You will receive 12 hours of taught sessions each week, on top of this you will need to put in a further 12 hours of self study to achieve high grades.

How is the course assessed

The BTEC 90-credit Diploma is entirely coursework. From each unit you will achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction. You will receive a final mark between PP and DD for the Diploma. An overall mark of DD equates to 210 UCAS points.

Where next - Further Studies

The BTEC 90-credit Diploma course is equivalent to 3 AS-levels and carries up to 210 UCAS points depending on your final grade. It can lead to a place on the second year of the BTEC Extended Diploma in IT.
