Student Guide for GCSE English and Maths November 2021 Resits

Below is an outline of considerations, expectations and requirements for deciding if a November resit is right for you. If you are a returning student, or joining the college from school this year, there is the option to request a November resit. Below are the details of the Awarding Bodies we use and the dates for the exams.

Awarding Bodies:        Maths (1MA1) is with Pearson (Edexcel)
                                       English (8700) is with AQA

GCSE Exam Dates:      November 2021:
English – 1st and 3rd November 2021
Maths – 2nd, 4th and 8th November 2021

Last year through the CAG system, many learners applied to sit the exams in November. Due to feeling underprepared, a significant number of learners did not actually attend the exams in the end, as well as a significant number not passing. It is important we avoid these issues again this year.

When learners were engaged in the process, they were generally more successful. It is therefore important to consider if you are ready to attempt the exams in November, rather than waiting until June 22.

There are a number of Terms and Conditions in order to sit the exams which you must adhere to, if you wish to apply for a November exam:

  1. You are required to attend all exams that you have requested to be entered for
  2. You will independently engage in the online materials prepared for weekly self-study
  3. You will attend the October half-term workshops
  4. You will attend your normal weekly timetabled classes until the results in January 2022

-  If you pass in January - only then are you able to stop attending GCSE English and / or maths classes and the College will remove you from the lessons.

If you choose to submit a form for a November entry, then you are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions above. If you are unsure about whether sitting in November is right for you then please speak to your teacher, if you were here last year, or the Section Managers:

Elena Rankin for English GCSE: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Shikha Gupta for maths GCSE: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

To make an entry for November resits you must complete a form for English and for maths separately. If you wish to submit an entry, please download a Student Request Form from the links here for GCSE English and here for GCSE maths. Deadline for all submissions is 12 noon on Thursday 23rd September.

A final reminder that it is important that you commit yourself seriously to a November resit and actively spend time focussing on your revision and exam preparation. It is your responsibility to prepare yourself fully for the exams. We will provide materials, but these must be used in conjunction with attendance to lessons.
