AS/A Levels

AS (Advanced Subsidiary) level is a 1 year course and A2 level is the second year in the same subject, leading to a full A level qualification.

BTECs

BTECs are career-based courses that give you a practical, real-world approach to learning while developing key knowledge and skills. They prepare you for work or progression to university in specific vocational areas. BTEC Nationals earn you UCAS points allowing you to go on and take a BTEC HND/HNC or Honours degree.

BTEC National Diploma

A BTEC National Diploma gives you a specialist work-related focus, enabling you to extend your knowledge of the work area and your practical skills. It is a two-year advanced level course equal to three A levels.

BTEC National Certificate

A BTEC National Certificate will give you a strong grounding in the expertise and knowledge base of a particular work sector. It is a two-year advanced level course equal to two A levels. The National Certificate can be studied alongside an A/AS level, giving you a set of varied level three qualifications.

BTEC First Diploma

A BTEC First Diploma is a one-year intermediate level course from which you’ll be able to progress to advanced level courses such as BTEC National or A levels.

BTEC Introductory Diploma

A BTEC Introductory Diploma will prepare you for work or a course from which you’ll be able to progress to higher level courses such as the BTEC First Diploma.

Diploma

A Diploma is a new qualification that combines theoretical and applied learning in one of 14 employment sectors. The Diploma in Creative and Media is a two-year advanced level course equal to three and a half A levels.

GCSE

A GCSE is a one-year course normally taken as a retake (alongside another course) or a GCSE package of courses, but not as a complete retake programme.

NVQ's

An NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) gives a vocational qualification in a specific occupational area. NVQs are offered at levels 1, 2 and 3.

Skills for Working Life

Skills for Working Life courses are pre-vocational courses for students who have completed their secondary education but have yet to gain the requirements for level 1 courses.

Supported Learning

Courses for Learners with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities provide a platform to develop communications, numeracy and information technology skills. You can get into Transition into College (two years) and after completing that, to Learning Links Programme (one year). The Harrow4U website offers Learners with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities and their parents information they may find helpful.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are at NVQ levels 2 and 3 on Work Based learning schemes which allow students to combine paid work with study. Whilst the College offers an extensive range of A levels, it is also the hub for vocational courses in Harrow and surrounding areas. We specialise in work-based and vocational course provision. Students are increasingly choosing the vocational route and succeed in moving on to university and employment every year. If you choose this route we will prepare you to leave us ready for the world of work or further study and with robust practical and theoretical skills. Vocational courses are best suited to those students who prefer practical learning, coursework assessments and a route to employment or further study.
