Science
Science is a very important sector of the UK economy and accounts for 1.8% of total UK Gross Value Added (output). In 2007 average GVA per employee was almost £76,500 compared to £35,300 for the whole economy. The life sciences market employs more than 400,000 people.
The UK is the world’s number 2 pharmaceuticals exporter. In 2007 the pharmaceutical sector accounted for £16bn of total revenue and employed around 73,000 people. The UK’s medical technology sector is the largest in Europe, employing approximately 50,000 people.

Maths
Maths requires logical thought. Maths is the tool of theoretical physics, so students often combine the two. In fact all physical sciences require maths for the development of theories.

ICT
IT is still a growth area of the economy and the games and mobile computing industries in particular are booming. The games industry alone contributed £1billion to the economy in 2009.
