Skillful Moneisa wins at WorldSkills

Moneisha Dixon

A proud winner of regional Beauty Therapy Advanced Heat competition in London, Moneisa Dixon is hoping to enter the WorldSkills UK Final in June this year.

With ten different regional Heat competitions throughout the country, WorldSkills UK has already seen various beauty therapists showing off their skills to compete at the WorldSkills London 2011 – the largest international vocational skills competition in the world. From Harrow College, Moneisa Dixon competed and won the Heat competition held at West Thames College in London.

These competitions aim to encourage people across the UK to excel in their vocational skills. The competitions run both regionally and nationally each year in the UK and aims to help lift standards of training and performance promoting world class skills and international competitiveness.

Along with 12 other participants, Moneisa was assessed in three different areas of beauty therapy treatments. It was a live competition where competitors gave massages and therapies to clients in front of the judges, ‘I think I had prepared more than my competitors. I kept talking to my clients, I was asking them questions and communicating throughout the treatment. I was also confident in what I was doing and I think the judges saw that.’

The top 10 high scorers from the ten Heat competitions will get a chance to enter the UK Final competition to be held in June this year. From there, they might even get a chance to compete at WorldSkills London 2011.

Being inspired by her dream to be a make- up artist, she enrolled at Harrow College and is now taking NVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy. She says, ‘This wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my tutors. They prepared me really well and I couldn’t have done it without their support.’
