The London Borough of Harrow commissioned Harrow College Level 3 (A level and BTEC) drama and media students to produce a promotional film (below) to encourage people to use Harrow shops and restaurants for their Valentine’s celebrations. The silent film, following in the footsteps of ‘The Artist’, features various sketches each with the theme of love and romance.
The film is being projected in HD on to the St George’s Centre in Greenhill Way from 10th-19th February 2012. The film will be shown on a loop running 24hrs a day giving people many opportunities to see its different scenes.
The project has involved 30 students who comprised a specialist production team from Art and Media programmes and an acting team from Drama and Performing Arts programmes. This has provided students with the opportunity to use their skills to promote business in Harrow Town Centre. Vishal Raja, of the media department, created the animated sections of the film and assisted the production team with the storyboard.
‘All-in-all the project has created a huge amount of really valuable vocational experience for a wide range of students. They have cheerfully given up a lot of time but have also had a lot of fun and gained a professional insight into acting, production and filming’ commented Mary Ling, Curriculum Leader for Media and Performing Arts ‘Vishal and I are proud to have been involved in a project with Harrow Council which will be shared with the whole community!’
Special thanks go to our student Kashyap Bhuva, a student who would like to progress into the International Film Industry, for the loan of a high definition camera for the filming. Kashyap commented ‘It’s been cool to work on a professional level giving me experience of the Industry’.
Another special thanks to Angelika Wierzbicka, an Art & Design/Photography student who is a promising Photographer, for her effort and professionalism into this project. Angelika commented ‘It was great to transfer the skills I've learnt at Harrow College and working with students from different subject areas onto a live brief.’
The project is supported by The Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund.
