Legendary former England, Tottenham and Barcelona manager, Terry Venables, visited Harrow College to put pen to paper on an exciting new partnership agreement to start in 2012. Terry Venables is Chairman of Academy of Dreams, a global sporting social programme that combines top quality education with outstanding sports coaching, which aims to discover talented sports stars of the future and, at the same time, ensure they achieve educational excellence.
From September 2012, Academy of Dreams will run a football academy in partnership with Harrow College for up to 40 students who want to combine both their desire for academic success with the opportunity to use their outstanding football ability to progress a career in sport itself or sport related industries. Harrow College will provide all the teaching for the programmes and Academy of Dreams in association with Protec Football Academy will provide the football side of the operation through their group of UEFA trained coaches.
“Our Academy of Dreams students will come to college to attend a full timetable on either Btec Level 2 or Level 3 Sports & Fitness and then train or play matches in the afternoon,” said Tony Medhurst, Principal & Chief Executive of Harrow College. “Having the support and endorsement of somebody as highly respected as Terry Venables, one of the greatest football coaches this country has ever produced, only adds to what I see as a fantastic opportunity for gifted young footballers to ensure that they get an excellent education alongside the continued development of their sporting skills. Maybe one of our students could be the next Steve Morison (Norwich City and Welsh international) who came through the Protec Football Academy route.”
