Harrow College Tutors Get Set Network Work at the London 2012 Olympic Games Harrow College and Terry Venables join forces for 2012Alumni: Mandy Williams
After taking her ‘Start your own business’ course at Harrow College, Mandy Williams has gone on to be a successful business entrepreneur. She attributes her success to the support she received from Harrow College and her own hard work and determination.
When Mandy Williams first attended the ‘Start your own business’ course at Harrow College, little did she know that she would be a successful businesswoman in future. She has a famous juice bar called Fuji Juice at St. Ann’s Shopping Centre in Harrow. The business plan that she had prepared at Harrow College came to fruition when she opened her business just 2 months after completing her course.
‘I felt lethargic one day and I made myself a glass of juice. It made me feel better and that’s the reason I kept drinking juice for six months. That’s when I had the idea to open a juice bar but I needed to get the information on how to start a business and therefore I enrolled at Harrow College,’ recalls Mandy.
Along with her Starting the Business course, she also did Basic Computing, (word, excel and internet) so that she could keep track of her progress. ‘It helped me plan my budget as I needed the knowledge of excel to keep track of my accounts.’
Apart from having a shop in Harrow, Mandy has three mobile units that she uses for events like Notting Hill Carnival and Under One Roof. She thanks her course lecturer for pointing her in the right direction, ‘it all boils down to my lecturer Amrik Singh who gave me lots of good advice, he helped me a lot, got me writing the business plan by emphasising how important it was. Even if I didn’t realise its importance then, I actually found out after I had started trading. The course was a big advantage, definitely pushed me off.’
Mandy was working full time when she did her courses at Harrow College, and she says that being able to work and study at the same time, was the best part of the course, ‘you don’t have to give up your full time job to study. It is just 2 hours every week and makes all the difference.
