Jennie Willett: Much more than a teacher

Jennie WillettJennie Willett, a Harrow College alumna and a part time lecturer, has affected the local community and beyond with her courses on ‘Assertiveness, Confidence and Self-esteem’ and PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education).

This is how Jennie’s students remember her:
Ian Phillips, Lecturer in Cellular Pathology at Northwick Park Hospital used to be one of Jennie’s PGCE students. He said, ‘the course was great. She was my personal tutor. She taught me a lot about confidence building and how to motivate students. I have been in this field for more than 20 years but after her course, I felt much better when interacting with my students.’

Helen Beckwith, a Hair and Beauty Lecturer at Harrow College, shares a similar view. Helen took a Teacher Training course with Jennie three years ago, ‘I was conscious of standing in front of people but after the course, I felt motivated and confident. She taught us about body postures. The difference is, when you are confident, you take control of the class.’

The course has not just affected the local community, her teaching have now gone beyond the UK. Duncan James, Duty Officer at Qatar Airways in Geneva, took Jennie’s Assertiveness, Confidence and Self-esteem as well as Public Speaking course about 8 years ago, he says, ‘I’ve used her teaching practically every day. My confidence has skyrocketed. I used to be a shy, introvert person but with the course, it’s all changed. My biggest dream was to get my private pilot’s license. I was petrified of learning to fly but the course helped me conquer my fears. Even now when I get down, I read the notes from the course and it makes me think positively.’

She is now the author of ‘Easy Ways to build Assertiveness, Confidence and Self- esteem.’
