Avantika Katkoria Harrow College student wins 1st prize for ceramics at ‘Inspired by’ competition organised by the V&A Museum

Avantika Katkoria, a part time adult student studying Ceramics at Harrow College won the ceramics category in the ‘Inspired by’ competition on 9th May organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum. ‘Inspired by’ is the V&A's annual art competition for people on part-time courses. Avantika was awarded with a £50 voucher and a certificate during the prestigious awards ceremony held at the V&A Museum.

Participants were asked to create a work of art or craft inspired by the collections of either V&A South Kensington, the Theatre Collections Online or the V&A Museum of Childhood. The clay work is three pairs of antelope vases and was judged by a panel of curators after being entered in March.

The competition celebrates Adult Learners Week and is supported by NIACE, the National Institute of Continuing Education.

In Avantika’s words, "I’ve always had a passion for clay modelling and sculpture and I was so excited to enter the ‘Inspired by’ competition as it gave me a chance to demonstrate how well I can work with clay. My artwork was inspired by a vase I saw when visiting the V&A"

The winners and other selected works will be displayed in early summer in the museum of their inspiration.
