Harrow College Tutors Get Set Network Work at the London 2012 Olympic Games Harrow College and Terry Venables join forces for 2012College students show talent at Hip!- Ex and Sparks Expo 2010
In April, 23 students from Whitefriars and the Harrow Skills Centre visited the Hip!-Ex and Sparks Expo trade shows at Newbury race course. It allowed students to gain a greater understanding of the trades, meeting manufacturers, taking part in fun events and looking at new innovations within their industries. Throughout the day there were live demonstrations and seminars for students and lecturers to take part in.
Several of the students took advantage of show offers on discounted tools and clothing. Morning events included the national final of Apprentice Plumber and Electrician of the year, with some outstanding work witnessed by our students. Next year we hope to enter our own plumbers and electricians into the competition, as the interest from students watching the live final was very positive.
We had some success on the day when Whitefriars’ Sam Varell won a £50 voucher for being the fastest to complete a low voltage lighting circuit. Steven Chambers, also from Whitefriars, won 2 VIP tickets for the Global Gathering dance festival at Stratford-upon-Avon later this year.
