Mike Southon's Beatles TalkHarrow College students learn entrepreneurship skills – the Beatles way

80 Business and Economics students heard Mike Southon’s interesting, entertaining and informative talk, Something about The Beatles at the Harrow on the Hill Campus on Wednesday, 23rd September. Using The Beatles as an example, he showed how one could be creative and entrepreneurial and overcome business challenges. Mike Southon is the UK’s leading entrepreneur mentor and delivers over 100 presentations worldwide each year. He also writes a weekly column for the Financial Times.

The students found it inspiring to hear that everyone has a great business idea, whether they are looking to set up their own company or would like to be more creative in their corporate environment.

Alf Filer, Business Lecturer at Harrow College said, ‘The presentation was packed with great music and practical learning points from Mike’s own twin careers as a highly successful serial entrepreneur and professional musician, all delivered with energy, style and humour.’

Students asked him a range of questions on a variety of issues including his views on management styles, wealth and money, business opportunities and how to start up your own business.

Mike made it clear that he believed wealth was not to be confused with money, wealth being valued in the approach one takes to friends, family and the community. Money however, comes and goes. He rejected greed and promoted charity instead. ‘It is about giving back to the community, not taking.’
