MP Lembit Öpik discusses economic and political issues with Harrow College students
MP Lembit Öpik spoke to Harrow College students and staff at Harrow on the Hill campus today. Born in Northern Ireland, Lembit has been Liberal Democrat MP for Montgomeryshire since 1997.
Lembit's talk on the current economic and political climate was successful in holding the students' interest. More than 150 students attended the programme where they questioned the MP on issues ranging from UK housing policy, the recession, capitalism, conflicts in the Middle East and international trade etc.
Lembit found the discussions remarkable. 'Questions were easily as challenging as the BBC Question time. It is stimulating when the audience is engaging with you. The experience was worthwhile.'
Alf Filer, business lecturer at Harrow College, said that it was a well attended, informative conference. 'It was an excellent opportunity for our students to engage with politics and the overall issues related to the UK economy.'
