Tunisian Education Minister visits Harrow College
Hatem Ben Salem, Tunisia's Minister of Education and Training, visited Harrow College's Harrow on the Hill campus on Friday, 16th January, 2009. Mrs Hamida Labidi, Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to the United Kingdom also accompanied him during the visit.
The Education Minister, along with his specialist team from Tunisia, spoke to the Principal and Chief Executive, Tony Medhurst, and Harrow College staff as well as taking the time to observe some classes in the College.. The visit formed a part of the English Reform project which will be pioneered in Tunisia and used as a model for the Near East North Africa region.
The visit, organised by the British Council, was mainly for the delegation to help gain an understanding of the UK experience and expertise in Vocational Education and English Language teaching. Harrow College was one of two colleges chosen for the visit reflecting the high regard in which the College is held in relation to both the excellence of its course provision and language teaching.
"We were delighted to be able to host the visit and hold detailed discussions with the Minister and his party regarding the challenges they face in developing further their English Language provision and breadth of vocational courses they need to meet the needs of the Tunisian people and key national industries," said Harrow College's Principal, Tony Medhurst. "We look forward to building on this first meeting and developing partnerships with specific Tunisian schools and colleges who are keen to learn from our expertise in these areas of curriculum delivery."
