Steve has been working with the Careers Academy programme, mentoring students and as a chair on the local advisory board since September 2011.
As a Harrow resident he decided to get involved to support the local community and young people. Careers Academy provided the opportunity for him to use his extensive business knowledge and experience to help develop the potential in our students.
He brings valuable experience to our Career Academy students, all of whom are currently studying IT, from his role at BT design and has been able to offer the students a unique insight into the business world. He has taken groups of them to visit BT Research Centre in Ipswich which not only gave them an exciting insight into future technology, but the workings of a large company and the career possibilities on offer to them.
Steve organised for his mentee Mithilesh Zavar to volunteer for a day at Lord's cricket ground, for Mithilesh, a lifelong cricket fan this provided exclusive access to the grounds including the member's pavilion and the media centre along with the opportunity to develop his skills.
On the benefits of Careers Academy Steve commented, "It gives students an idea of the roles on offer to them within the IT industry. All the students completed their internships and had very successful placements. The experience developed the maturity of the students and gave them real life and practical work experience."
