Harrow College staff member to Wag & Walk in memory of injured policeman

dog-storyJean Mancey, a Student Support Assistant who works with our learning links students, is to take part in a charity event in memory of PC Philip Olds.

PC Philip Olds was shot in the line of duty, sustaining a spinal injury which left him paralysed. On 30th September, Jean will tackle Canine Partners' Purple Wag & Walk in West Sussex to raise funds for the charity that provides specially trained assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities.

Jean met PC Philip Olds after he was shot and they remained friends for six years until he sadly took his own life due to being unable to cope with his disability. Jean comments, "I am reminded of Philip whenever I hear of the terrible injuries suffered by our brave service men and women. When I read about the work of Canine Partners in changing the lives of people with disabilities and helping them to move on, I am very heartened. I therefore wanted to do something to support Canine Partners, so will be braving 5km with my dog Chaise."

The Purple Wag and Walk takes place on Saturday 30 September, 10.30am at Petworth House in West Sussex. Entrants can walk, run or jog with or without a dog - choosing a 5km or 10km route through the beautiful grounds of this stately home.

We wish Jean the best of luck for the Wag and Walk!
