In July The MS Therapy Centre held a family fun day at Harrow College’s Weald campus with the purpose of raising money for the locally based charity. The venue was offered free of charge and many members of College staff helped out on the day.
Celia Reece grew plants leading up to the day and Sandra Calderbank along with the LLDD students sold them on the day. Michael Connolly ran the crockery smash brilliantly. Staff also brought in cakes and Debbie, Sarah and Mandy from Admissions team helped to sell them on the day. Alan Tolhurst and his wife Sheila provided help a lot on the day too. Coron Zammito and some of her Hair and Beauty students did some fantastic face painting, manicures and pedicures. Admissions assistant Afshin ran the penalty shoot out as well as providing some lovely cakes and biscuits, and his brother Shahin came along on the day and took some wonderful photographs of the event .
Gill O’Brien, a member on the Board of Trustees for the Centre said, “I would just like to say on behalf of the Harrow MS Therapy Centre how very grateful we are that Harrow College allowed us to use their wonderful premises for this event. The event raised overall £1350 which is fantastic when you take into account the summer weather and the clash with Andy Murray reaching the men's Wimbledon final. I personally would like to thank all my colleagues who helped on the day and running up to the event, the college has some wonderful, caring and giving members of staff and I am proud to know them.”
The College’s hair and beauty students will be working with the Therapy Centre again to organise a Pampering event in October which will be held in the Image salon. The day will give the opportunity for those with Multiple Sclerosis to receive some beauty treatments real boost for people managing their symptoms as well as family, friends and staff all while raising money for the charity. It also gives the students the opportunity to perfect their techniques on clients and develop their organisational skills through planning the event.
