Former Harrow College student amongst those carrying the torch through Harrow

Crowds lined the streets today to welcome the torch to Harrow 3 days before the opening ceremony. The torch made its way past the College and over Harrow on the Hill flagged by dancers, drummers and cheerleaders along its route.

The torch bearers included former Harrow College student, international footballer and coach Ben Lampert who carried the torch across the hill. Ben currently plays with Fulham deaf football club who encouraged local people to come and support him.

Ben was nominated to carry the torch due to not only his sporting achievements but his work in the community. He has given a lot of his time to coaching young deaf people in local schools and is currently setting up a football club for deaf children.

Ben a former sports student has previously commented on his time at Harrow College as being supportive and helpful in developing his confidence. Ben has remained in touch with the College who in 2009 donated £500 to fund his expenses at the Summer Deaflympic Games.
