Support for students
Information, Advice and Guidance
Staff in our central admissions office are available to offer you help on course choice and progression options. Students are also welcome to access specialist careers information and advice at our two main campuses. In addition practical help and advice is available to those with a disability or learning need. The College also runs classes for students wishing to improve their written and spoken English and numeracy skills.

Financial Support for Students
You may be eligible for the Adult Learning Grant (ALG) if you are over 19 years of age studying full-time level 2 or 3 qualification for the first time. You can be paid up to 30.00 per week depending on your income, provided you are not receiving mean- tested benefits.
The Learner Support Fund (LSF) is available to students with a disability, on benefits or with a low family income studying a qualification course. There is no age limit and you can receive LSF in addition to ALF.
Care to Learn is available if you are a parent under 20 years, you can claim for help with childcare costs for the hours you are studying at College, providing your child is looked after by a registered childcare provider.
Support for Learning
Our Learning Support Team offers help to students with learning difficulties, physical disabilities, literacy/numeracy problems, or medical problems. We also offer support if English is your second or other language. Learners with Learning Difficulties or Disabilities may find the Harrow4U website helpful.
We also have Communication Support Unit (CSU) that offers specialist support to Deaf and hard of hearing students. We can provide note takers and BSL Communicators to support you in the classroom.
Concessionary Fees
Concessionary fees are also available if you are on a low income or receiving means-tested benefits but not all courses are applicable for this. Persons eligible are those receiving Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support, Working Tax Credit – depending on income, other Income-Based Benefits – Council Tax Benefit/Housing Benefit, Unwaged Dependants of the above (if named), Disability Living Allowance, Helpers for Disability Living Allowance Holders, Invalidity Benefit, Age 16 – 18 inclusive, Registered Unemployed, Pension Guaranteed Credit, First Full Level 2 Qualification and First Full Level 3 Qualification.

The Learning Centre
The Learning Centre is a quiet area - there are tables for quiet individual study and a silent area. Both Learning Centres have networked computers offering a wide range of software, as well as access to the Internet. The book stock is regularly updated, and supports all the courses offered by the College; there are also some general interest and fiction materials. Also provided are magazines, daily newspapers, audiotapes, CDs and videos and DVDs.
