FAQs

Will taking a course help me with my career?

Learning something new is never a waste. Whatever you study and wherever you start there will be something to help you achieve your goal. Courses can lead to nationally recognised qualifications which may help you get a job, improve your job prospects or further your studies.

I’m not sure which course to take, can you help?

Whatever your situation our Advice and Guidance team are on-hand to help you choose the right course for you. They’ll also be able to advise you about entry requirements or interviews and guide you through the application process.

Will I be able to get help with fees?

If you’re on a low income or receiving means-tested benefits you may be eligible for financial support. We may be able to help you with course related expenses such as registered childcare, examination fees, books and equipment. However, there are limited funds available. If you’re over 19 and studying on a full time level 2 or 3 course for the first time, you can be paid up to £30 per week through the Adult Learning Grant, depending on your income and provided you are not receiving welfare benefits. The Learner Support Fund (LSF) is available to students on benefits or with a low family income studying a qualification course. For more information and applications contact Student Services at Harrow Weald campus.

I’m worried I’ll be the oldest in the class?

You’ll be mixing with people of all ages. Last year over 1,000 students were over the age of 60 and 38% were over 35. So don’t let your age put you off learning.

How can I fit learning into family life?

Courses are available during the day, evenings and on Saturdays starting at different points throughout the year. Learndirect also offers a flexible approach to learning.
