Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Concepts

Validated by ABC Awards
This Humanistic course introduces the basic concepts of the Person Centred approach and counselling skills and enables you to sample the style of an experiential counselling skills course. It is a 10 week part-time course plus one full day workshop. No previous training is required; the course is open to anyone who is interested in counselling and personal development. However, you are expected to have a reasonable grasp of spoken and written language as well as basic computer skills.

The course covers:

  • Effective listening
  • Attending skills
  • Effective responding skills
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • Respecting difference and cultural diversity
  • It encourages your personal development and self awareness

All students embarking on the Foundation Degree in Counselling will be required to do a CRB police check, which will have an additional cost of approximately £44.

Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills

This is a six month, one day per week course, which builds on the knowledge and skills developed in the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Concepts course, and is a pre-requisite for entry on to the Foundation Degree in Counselling.

On the course students will learn to:

  • Develop a repertoire of counselling skills at a consistent level
  • Underpin these skills with an understanding of the Person Centred therapeutic model
  • Increase their self-awareness and their awareness of their impact on others.

Please note that the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Concepts and the Foundation Degree include a 3 day residential event.

Foundation Degree in Counselling

Validated by Middlesex University
This 2 year part-time course combines academic teaching with practical experience, at the end of which you can expect to qualify as a Counsellor. We will cover areas that will allow you to develop clinical and experiential understanding of the Person Centred approach to counselling, within a humanistic perspective of the therapeutic relationship and process.

Professional experience/expertiseI started my professional therapy career in July 1987 working in therapeutic communities with people with severe mental health difficulties as well as drug and alcohol problems. Since that time I have worked all over England then America and also in India. I commenced formal training as a Gestalt Psychotherapist in the summer of 1991, graduating in July 1995, I then set up in private practice which included one to one therapy, supervising individuals working one to one and in groups. Alongside my private practice, I have worked at management and then consultant level from 1992 till 2001 developing, supervising and training staff teams.
