The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Business is designed to provide for the needs of a wide range of individuals who wish to gain an academic understanding of how business works and to evaluate the application of various business notions.

On this course you will study a range of units on topics such ‘Marketing Principles’, ‘Managing Financial Decisions’, and the ‘Business Environment.’ You will be taught using various methods which include traditional lectures, class discussion and supported individual study. The course is assessed through assignments which incorporate various assessment methods such as controlled tests, written reports and presentations.

The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Business contains a balance of practical skill development and knowledge requirements, some of which can be theoretical, appropriate links are made between theory and practice and maximum use will be made of learners’ prior work and life experiences.

The BTEC Higher National Diploma is a qualification which allows you to enter a specialist area of employment in the Business sector or progress into higher education.

HND in Computing and Systems Development

HND in Comp and System Dev

Entry Requirements: GCSE English Language grade C+ or IELTS 6.0 and BTEC Level 3 in IT or an Access to Higher Education Certificate or other related level 3 qualifications.
Those who do not have formal qualifications at level 3 but can demonstrate extensive work experience and/or achievement on a range of professional qualifications in Computing, are also welcome to apply.

The HND in Computing and Systems Development will enable you to develop your knowledge, experience and skills to a higher level.

The course will cover topics such as Computer Games Design and Development, Systems Analysis and Design, Web Applications Development and Programming. You will also develop your research and employability skills. You will be taught by highly qualified subject specialists. Tuition will include lectures, seminars and workshops. Assessment is by assignments and tests throughout the course.

This course can lead to direct progression to the second or third year of an honours degree in Computing, or a closely related discipline, at a UK university, or employment.

HND in Applied Science (Chemistry)

HND in Applied Science provides the skills and knowledge demanded of a modern science industry. This specialised vocational programme is designed to equip those who wish to work in chemical related industries with the skills and the practical expertise to thrive within this cutting edge environment.

This programme is assessed by 100% coursework submission which may include scientific reports, presentations, essays, tests and projects. You will study core units which will give you in-depth subject knowledge in the areas of organic, inorganic and physical chemistry and develop practical and analytical skills to enhance laboratory techniques. There is a range of optional units that will help you expand your skills, knowledge and interest in related applied science fields. You will also be able to develop your mathematical and statistical techniques through this course.

After completing the course, you will be able to progress on to a degree in a chemistry or applied science subject or into employment within the chemical technology sector.

HND in Media: Film & TV Production

HND in Media

The HND in Media: Film and TV Production is a specialised, practical course taught by professional creative practitioners with a wide range of experience in the Media Industry. The course will enable students to gain the skills and practical expertise to thrive within the current cutting edge environment in the Media working world.

Tuition will be through practical workshops, seminars and project work and students will undertake independent research and pre-production planning and editing, in which they will be guided by a personal mentor.

The assessment will be focused through a demanding project structure, through which students will demonstrate and apply the professional skills they have learned.

In the first year there will be an integral trip to a UK based film festival, linked to practical work, and in the second year to a major European film festival. A separate fee is payable for these trips. This structure will enhance each student’s employability skills and experience, and enable them to produce an industry standard showreel for progression to an honours degree at university or directly into employment in the media industry. Enrolment is by interview with members of the HND teaching team and submitting a portfolio/showreel and completing a creative storyboard which will be supplied on application.

HND in Art & Design Multidisciplinary

HND in Art & Design

Entry Requirements: BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design (Merit profile) or a GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in an art related subject or a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above. If you have none of the above, we will consider those who have a significant level of experience in Art and Design on their portfolio evidence. You should be able to demonstrate a good level of written and spoken English and Maths (GCSE ‘C’ equivalent standard).

This course comprises of 3 differeny pathways:

  • Architecture, Spatial & Interior Design
  • Time Based Media (Photography)
  • Fine Art Practice

It enables students to develop their Art and Design skills to a professional level and prepare a portfolio for Industry, or continue their education with a top up third year on an appropriate BA (Honours) course.

The course is taught mainly through studio-based projects, underpinned by Critical and Contextual studies. You will also work on team projects, which will prepare you for the processes and demands of a professional working environment. Live briefs are an important aspect of this course and we will encourage you to apply for an Internship or other work experience, usually during the summer after your first year. In the second year you will be encouraged to initiate and develop your own projects, from personal research and interests.

You will take units to develop your appropriate subject specialism and core units in Visual Communication, Idea Generation and Development, Contextual and Cultural Referencing, Professional Practice, and Project Design, implementation and evaluation.

Continual assessment of your work will support your professional development within your chosen field. A trip to Paris in the first year will be linked to your current project.
