Preparation for IELTS

This course is for all students whose first language is not English, both Home and Overseas Students, who require the academic version of the International English Testing System (IELTS) as an entrance requirement for a college or university course. The preparation for IELTS programme requires students to have general English Language skills at Level 1 (Post-Intermediate)/Level 2 (Advanced). It can be combined with an Intensive or part time EFL or Skills for Life course.

Classes take place two afternoons a week and we offer classes at two levels:

Preparation for IELTS High Intermediate (Monday and Thursday)
Preparation for IELTS Advanced (Tuesday and Friday).

Programme of Study

The exam skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing, as well as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation are developed using a variety of methodologies, both traditional and up-to-date. Students enjoy learning in a friendly and supportive environment and carry out pair, group and class activities in groups of up to 20 learners. Homework will generally be set at the end of every class.

The IELTS test is booked online by the students themselves at an external centre. The closest centre is Middlesex University at Hendon, London NW4, where the test can be taken on most Saturdays. The test fee is payable to the external centre and is not included in the Harrow College Preparation for IELTS course fee.
