Harrow College Alumni
Sean Butler
‘I liked it so much here, I came back!’ Former Harrow College Art student Sean Butler is now a member of staff.
Harrow College prospectuses, websites, microsites, posters, emailers – you name it, Sean takes on any design project that comes his way and carries it out brilliantly. He is one of the College's two graphic designers.
Sean studied at Harrow College from 1999 until 2002 at the Harrow Weald Campus. After taking his A Levels in English, Art, and Design & Technology here, followed by the Foundation Degree in Art & Design, he completed a degree in Graphic Design at the University of Portsmouth. He has since travelled in Australia and Asia before starting work as a graphic designer.
‘I found the atmosphere of the course really helped develop my creativity and my interest in graphics,’ says Sean remembering his Foundation Art & Design course, ‘it was while I was at high school that I discovered I had a passion for art and creativity but it was while at Harrow College that I was really able to develop my talent for it.’
Sean believes that it was the teachers at the College who realised he had potential and helped him in bringing that potential out, ‘I remember my Art teacher Viven Wichel being impressed with my drawing skills and helping me develop them further. She also didn’t mind giving me a kick up the backside if she thought I could do better, which I think we all need sometimes!’
Asked about his future plans, Sean says he wants to ‘keep developing my skills in web design and hopefully run my own business someday. I think digital design is a really exciting area and is only going to grow further.’
