Harrow College Alumni
Anmar Al-Gabouri
A recent 2009 alumnus, Anmar Al-Gabouri has already proved to be a thriving graphic designer with his creative blend of artistic and technical expertise.
With his work featured in books and exhibitions in and outside the UK, Anmar has established himself as a talented graphic designer and a photographer. While at Harrow College, he studied A levels Graphic Design, Photography, 3D Design and Media Studies and is now studying at the University of the Arts, London.
Anmar credits his self determination and hard work for getting this far, ‘I’m a graphic designer and a freelance photographer too. In both jobs, I have to be an all rounder to compete with the rest. I do all types of photography and if I don’t have enough knowledge in that area, I always take it as a good opportunity to learn more about it.’
Harrow College’s teachers were a source of motivation to Anmar and he says his best friends are still those whom he met at the College, ‘Harrow College helped me a lot, because I had to keep producing work and that was a great exercise. My teachers and friends encouraged me to work at my best and criticism from my friends helped a lot as well.’
Advising those who want to take his line of work, Anmar suggests, ‘in the world of graphic design, I’ve found the most important thing is to understand what the clients want from you and communication is vital, you need to keep communicating with your clients.’
Anmar hopes to work in big advertising agency in the future. He is exhibiting at Westminster Town Hall this month and with his fine designs, it doesn’t come as a surprise that he’s bagged the opportunity to work at Sony in Japan next year.
